Shaun Caven, Principal

Mr. Caven graduated from Cumberland University with a degree in Education. Later he received a Master's Degree in Instructional Leadership from Tennessee Tech University. Mr. Caven worked as a Special Education Teacher in Smith County and Wilson County. He became the principal at Barry Tatum Academy in 2017. He is married to Susan, and they have two children. Mr. Caven enjoys watching sports, fishing, and spending time with his family. Mr. Caven loves serving the students of Wilson County Schools and seeing students succeed in the community after finishing high school. |
Kristie Buhler, Assistant Principal
Mrs. Buhler earned a Bachelors in Elementary Education from Cumberland University before graduating from Western Governors University with a Master's in Instructional Leadership.
Mrs. Buhler has been an administrator at Barry Tatum Academy since 2020. She is passionate about providing a variety of non-traditional programs (Alternative, Virtual, Adult High School, and Adult Learning Center) to help serve and meet students where they currently are, in order to provide them with opportunities they may not otherwise have.
Mrs. Buhler is married and has two children. She enjoys sports, spending time with her family, as well as traveling.
Pam Chowning, Assistant Principal
Mrs. Chowning graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Agriculture and attended Cumberland University where she received her Master's degree in Educational Leadership in 2009.
She taught agriculture at Wilson Central High School and served as an academy coach at Glencliff High School. Since becoming assistant principal at BTA in 2018, Mrs. Chowning has enjoyed the privilege of meeting students where they are and helping students on a daily basis.
She enjoys spending time with her husband, Tim, and their three grandchildren.
Charlie Lowery, Assistant Principal
Mr. Lowery attended Middle Tennessee State University where he earned his Bachelor's in Education and later a Master's in Educational Leadership in 2009.
Mr. Lowery taught at MAP Academy for 10 years; during which, he was named Teacher of the Year for 2005-2006. He coached baseball several years at Lebanon High School before becoming an Assistant Principal at LHS from 2012-2018. Mr. Lowery also served as the district's Textbook Coordinator in 2018-2019.
Mr. Lowery became an adminstrator at BTA in 2019. He loves working with students and seeing them succeed. Mr. Lowery enjoys coaching sports and spending time with his wife, three children, and Boxer, Thor.
